Japanese magazine Best Car has reported that Toyota is developing a new-generation Toyota Estima.
According to Best Car, the all-new Estima will be built on Toyota’s TNGA-K (GA-K) platform, which also underpins models such as the RAV4 and Kluger, and is shared with MPVs like the Alphard and Vellfire. The report further claims that the reborn Estima will be offered with both a hybrid powertrain and a fully electric (EV) option.
Unlike many MPVs in the past that were derived from commercial vans, the Estima was engineered as a dedicated standalone model, featuring a mid-mounted engine layout with a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Renderings released by Best Car suggest that the design direction may take inspiration from the 1990s Estima, retaining its signature heavily raked windscreen and distinctive egg-shaped body, a hallmark of the original model.
