Honda has announced that it will cease sales of the Civic Type R in Europe, as the model no longer complies with the region’s increasingly strict emissions regulations.
Only 40 units of the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition will be made available across Europe before the entire Type R lineup is discontinued in the region by 2026. Each car will come in Honda’s signature Championship White, accented with red stripes on the hood and along the bottom edges of the doors.
The Ultimate Edition stands out with a black-painted roof and several carbon fiber components, including a rear spoiler. Upon opening the front doors, owners will be greeted by illuminated Type R logos, carbon door sills, and a center console finished with exclusive materials unique to this edition. The interior also features ambient lighting around the door trims, cup holders, footwells, and under-seat areas.
Buyers of the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition will receive a commemorative gift box containing a numbered metal badge identifying the individual vehicle, a carbon fiber keyring, custom floor mats, and a car cover — items that may appeal to collectors looking to preserve the model for future investment.
However, this is not the end of the road for the Civic Type R globally. The model will continue to be sold in the United States and Japan. Its discontinuation in Europe is primarily due to the introduction of the new GSR2 regulations, which require vehicles to be equipped with driver monitoring systems. These same rules also led Toyota Europe to halt imports of the GR86 and forced Porsche to end sales of its combustion-engine 718 series in Europe.
Honda has not yet announced the price of the Ultimate Edition, though it will certainly be more expensive than the standard Type R, which is currently priced at £51,905 in the UK (approx. 2.3 million baht) and €58,900 in Germany (approx. 2.2 million baht).
