New Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2026 Receives Major Facelift with Illuminated Grille and Hyperscreen Display

The heavily updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class has officially made its global debut, five years after the current flagship W223-generation sedan was first introduced in 2020.

Mercedes-Benz says the 2026 S-Class represents the most comprehensive mid-cycle update in the model’s history, with more than 50 per cent of its approximately 2,700 components newly developed, updated or refined to strengthen its competitiveness. Key highlights of the latest S-Class include an illuminated three-pointed star emblem on the bonnet, a 20 per cent larger illuminated grille, and newly designed Twin-Star Digital Light headlights featuring Micro-LED technology.

In terms of exterior design, the facelifted S-Class retains its classic elegance. The larger illuminated grille is adorned with three-dimensional chrome stars, paired with the new Twin-Star Digital Light headlight design that clearly differentiates it from the outgoing model. At the rear, newly styled tail-lights featuring a triple-star chrome motif further reinforce the updated identity. Side sill projectors also cast the “Mercedes-Benz” lettering onto the ground when the doors are opened.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the new Micro-LED-based Digital Light system expands the high-resolution illumination area by approximately 40 per cent, delivering longer high-beam range while reducing energy consumption compared with the previous model. The Ultra Range high-beam system can illuminate up to 600 metres — equivalent to around six football fields — with automatic beam adjustment for optimal road coverage. The partial high-beam function improves detection of poorly lit road users without dazzling other drivers, while the cornering light system uses camera and map data to adapt more precisely to road conditions.

The latest S-Class also introduces new 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, produced using high-pressure casting technology. The wheels feature sharper contours, reduced thickness and an intricate 50-cross-spoke design, finished in Tremolit Metallic High Sheen to provide a more distinctive appearance.

The vehicle comes standard with Airmatic air suspension, with optional E-Active Body Control featuring intelligent damping available. Rear-axle steering enhances low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability, offering up to 4.5 degrees of rear-wheel steering, or up to 10 degrees as an option for easier turning and parking in tight spaces.

Inside, the S-Class is equipped with a full-length rear centre console, incorporating concealed storage, wireless charging, fast-charging USB-C ports, a refrigerated compartment and temperature-controlled cupholders. Folding tables allow occupants to work on a laptop, sign documents or enjoy meals while travelling, while new trim options for the rear centre console add an extra level of personalisation. Rear-seat passengers can also operate climate control, window blinds and the 13.1-inch rear entertainment display via dedicated remote controls.

Two audio systems are available: the Burmester 3D Surround Sound system and the Burmester high-end 4D Surround Sound system with Dolby Atmos.

The S-Class also features heated seatbelts, capable of reaching temperatures of up to 44 degrees Celsius, providing added warmth during cold-weather driving and operated via the seat-heating controls.

Customers can further personalise the S-Class through the Manufaktur program, which offers exclusive exterior paint finishes, premium leather packages and handcrafted details. For those seeking ultimate individuality, the Manufaktur Made to Measure program allows buyers to create a true one-off vehicle, with more than 150 exterior colours and over 400 interior colour options. Requests beyond the standard catalogue are assessed individually through personalised consultations, either at the Sindelfingen Centre of Excellence in Germany or at a location chosen by the customer.
