At a national dealer meeting in Las Vegas, Nissan executive Ivan Espinosa confirmed that the new Xterra will launch in 2028. It is being designed as a rugged, midsize SUV that is both tough and affordable.
Dealers who attended the event said that although no technical details were revealed, Nissan did present a teaser image. The preview showed the next-generation Xterra with a tall, upright grille and distinctly square headlights. Sources indicated that the new Xterra will use a body-on-frame platform, which is also expected to underpin the redesigned Frontier and serve as the basis for updated versions of the Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60.
As for the powertrain, Nissan is expected to equip the new Xterra with a V6 range-extender engine and a battery capable of delivering up to 121 kilometers (75 miles) of all-electric driving range. The vehicle will be built at Nissan’s plant in Canton, Mississippi.
Nissan’s product development plans extend beyond the Xterra. The company revealed it is developing the fourth-generation Rogue, scheduled for release in 2027. This SUV, previewed at the dealer meeting, is expected to feature a redesigned V-shaped grille and a light bar-style rear lamp. It will debut with the third generation of Nissan’s e-Power system and serve as the basis for a new Infiniti model, to be badged as the QX50. In addition, new generations of the Nissan Sentra and Infiniti Q50 are in the works, with the first of these potentially launching as early as next year.
