Mazda Motor Corporation has announced that the cumulative global production and sales of the Mazda CX-5 have reached 5 million units as of the end of 2025. This milestone makes the CX-5 the third Mazda model to surpass 5 million units in cumulative production and sales, following the Mazda 323 and Mazda3.
Among all Mazda models developed with Skyactiv technology and the “Kodo – Soul of Motion” design philosophy, the Mazda CX-5 is the model that reached the 5-million-unit production milestone in the shortest time.
Since its initial launch, the Mazda CX-5 has been sold in more than 100 countries worldwide and has been widely recognized as Mazda’s core crossover SUV, noted for its sporty design, smooth and natural driving performance, and dynamic character.
Production of the first-generation Mazda CX-5 began in 2011 at the Ujina No.2 Plant. Mazda later expanded production to the Ujina No.1 Plant, Hofu Plant, facilities in China, as well as local assembly operations in Malaysia and Vietnam. These expansions helped the CX-5 grow into Mazda’s best-selling model in its current lineup.
The latest-generation Mazda CX-5 made its first debut in Europe in July 2025, with launches in North America and Japan scheduled for spring 2026.
Mr. Koichiro Yamaguchi, Project Manager of the Mazda CX-5, said that the new CX-5 has undergone a major facelift for the first time in eight years, enhancing its sporty design and driving performance while offering a more spacious cabin. It also features a completely redesigned Human-Machine Interface (HMI) to improve everyday usability. Mazda is committed to developing the CX-5 as a new-generation SUV that enhances quality of life and continues to be loved by customers over the long term.
Mazda remains dedicated to delivering the “Joy of Driving” under its “Radically Human” core value, while also providing the “Joy of Living” through mobility experiences that enrich customers’ everyday lives.
