TOYOTA Unveils the LAND CRUISER FJ, Scheduled for Japan Launch Around Mid-2026
The Land Cruiser FJ features a boxy body design, emphasizing a square-shaped cabin to provide a spacious interior and ample cargo capacity, staying true to the philosophy of all previous Land Cruiser generations. The vehicle’s body adopts a rectangular shape with chamfered edges, inspired by a dice motif. It also comes with large bumpers and flared fenders, while both front and rear corner bumpers are designed as segmented removable parts, allowing damaged sections to be replaced easily for improved repairability and customization.
Powering the Land Cruiser FJ is a 2.7-liter gasoline engine, code 2TR-FE, producing 163 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system.
Inside, the Land Cruiser FJ features a two-row, five-seat cabin designed for easy driving and precise control. The horizontal dashboard helps the driver easily perceive the vehicle’s tilt angle, while the monitor and switches are positioned close at hand to reduce eye movement. The gear lever is ergonomically designed for natural operation. A low-set hood and instrument panel enhance forward visibility, while the low beltline allows a clear view of the road surface even during off-road driving. Safety-wise, the vehicle comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, which includes advanced technologies such as the Pre-Collision Safety System.
The Land Cruiser FJ is built on the IMV platform, ensuring appropriate ground clearance and approach angles. It offers off-road performance comparable to the Land Cruiser 70, with a wheelbase shortened by 270 mm compared to the Land Cruiser 250, resulting in a tight turning radius of just 5.5 meters and improved maneuverability on rugged terrain.
Toyota also plans to introduce a wide range of accessories and customization options, to be rolled out over the model’s life depending on the region. Among them are MOLLE panels for mounting outdoor equipment and expanding cargo capacity, along with rugged and functional exterior parts that embody Land Cruiser’s “go-anywhere” spirit.
In addition, Toyota is developing the Land Hopper, a personal electric mobility vehicle designed to carry people and cargo, though its launch date has yet to be determined. The vehicle is designed for natural terrain, such as dirt paths or forest trails.
