Toyota has unveiled updated versions of the Toyota Yaris and Toyota Yaris Cross in Japan. The updates bring a larger infotainment screen while removing some advanced parking assistance features. The key highlight is the Yaris Z Urbano special edition, which now offers a six-speed manual transmission for drivers seeking more engagement but who are unable to step up to the Toyota GR Yaris.
Externally, there are no major design changes. Both models have been on sale in Japan since 2020 and received mild facelifts in 2024, so this update focuses mainly on specification adjustments. Toyota has added black mirror caps, a black shark fin antenna, and new exterior colors. The Yaris gains a Mustard shade, while the Yaris Cross introduces Urban Lock. Styling kits from GR Parts and Modellista remain available.
Inside, the cabin features a 10.5-inch infotainment display, previously introduced in Europe with the 2023 facelift. Lower trims receive an 8-inch screen, and the old 7-inch unit has been discontinued. Hybrid variants now come with an electric parking brake and a front seat armrest. The Toyota Teammate Advanced Park system has been removed, including the Panoramic View Monitor with transparent floor view and the Parking Support Brake.
The Z Urbano special edition returns with the larger screen and new two-tone color options. The Yaris pairs Black and Mustard, while the Yaris Cross combines Black and Urban Lock.
A significant change applies to the Yaris hatchback, as the Z Urbano grade now offers a six-speed manual transmission alongside the CVT. The manual is available exclusively with the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine and front-wheel drive.
In Japan, the Yaris and Yaris Cross continue to offer a range of engine options, including a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 118 hp, as well as a hybrid system delivering a combined 114 hp. For buyers not focused on performance, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine producing 67 hp is also available. Most variants use a CVT, or an e-CVT in hybrid models, while select petrol trims offer the six-speed manual. Drivetrain options include FWD, mechanical 4WD for petrol versions, and E-Four electric AWD for hybrids.
The updated Yaris and Yaris Cross went on sale in Japan from March 2. The Yaris hatchback is priced between ¥1,697,300–2,994,200 (approximately 340,000-601,000 baht), while the Yaris Cross ranges from ¥2,126,300–3,349,500 (approximately 426,000-672,000 baht). The standout value model is the Yaris Z Urbano manual, priced at ¥2,307,800 (approximately 463,000 baht).
