BYD Thailand Completes Vehicle Compensation Production Under EV 3.0 Scheme, Expands Exports Globally, and Retains No.1 Position in Thailand’s New Energy Vehicle Market
Between 2022 and 2023, BYD imported a total of 39,030 vehicles from China for sale in Thailand. Under the EV 3.0 policy, the company is required to produce replacement vehicles at a ratio of 1.5 times the total number of imported units. Accordingly, during the 2024–2025 period, BYD Thailand produced a total of 59,694 vehicles at its local manufacturing facility, fully meeting the compensation production requirements, including units allocated for export.
In terms of exports, BYD Thailand recorded overseas shipments of 10,250 vehicles in 2025, supplying markets across Europe, ASEAN, and Oceania.
The BYD Thailand plant was established to support the production of new energy vehicles for both domestic sales and international export. It is BYD’s first manufacturing facility outside China, with a maximum production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year. To date, total investment in Thailand stands at approximately 35.925 billion baht, creating more than 6,100 jobs, of which around 92 percent are Thai nationals.
Currently, BYD manufactures four models in Thailand, covering both EV and PHEV powertrains. These include the BYD Dolphin, BYD Atto 3, BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, and BYD Seal 5 DM-i. Among them, three models — the BYD Dolphin, BYD Atto 3, and BYD Sealion 6 DM-i — have received Made in Thailand certification, supported by a local content ratio of 45–50 percent. Looking ahead, BYD plans to further expand production for export to additional international markets.
In terms of vehicle registrations, BYD continues to lead Thailand’s new energy vehicle sector, ranking number one across multiple key categories. The brand holds the highest total registrations for both EV and PHEV vehicles nationwide. At the model level, BYD Dolphin leads the EV segment, BYD Sealion 6 tops the PHEV category, BYD Seal ranks first in the D-segment EV class, BYD Atto 3 leads the B-SUV EV segment, BYD Sealion 7 dominates the C-SUV EV category, BYD M6 ranks first in the MINI MPV EV segment, and DENZA D9 leads the VAN MPV EV segment — all achieving the highest registration figures in their respective classes.
