Toyota has officially unveiled the 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid in the U.S., introducing a new Nightshade Edition that features exclusive black exterior accents, including blacked-out badges, door handles, bumper trims, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The model is available in unique Karashi yellow, as well as premium paint options like Wind Chill Pearl and Midnight Black Metallic.
The 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid lineup consists of four trim levels: SE, XSE, Nightshade Edition, and XSE Premium. All variants are powered by Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, combining a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with dual electric motors to deliver a total output of 220 horsepower. The vehicle offers an average fuel efficiency of around 22 km/l, and it’s equipped with a 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery. The SE trim can drive up to approximately 71 km on electric power alone, while the XSE, Nightshade, and XSE Premium can cover up to 64 km on a full charge. The system supports Level 2 fast charging, completing a full charge in about 4 hours.
Three drive modes are available: EV Mode (pure electric), Auto EV/HV Mode (primarily electric with automatic switch to hybrid when needed), and Hybrid Mode (combining engine and electric motor power). Inside, all trims feature a digital instrument cluster and Toyota Audio Multimedia system—an 8-inch touchscreen for SE, XSE, and Nightshade, and a 12.3-inch display for the XSE Premium.
The SE trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, manually adjustable black/red fabric seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, electronic parking brake, smart key system, rain-sensing wipers, six USB-C ports, and blind spot monitoring. The XSE adds 19-inch wheels, an 8-way power-adjustable SofTex driver’s seat, wireless charging pad, and smart key access for both front doors and the rear liftgate.
The Nightshade Edition builds on the XSE with sportier styling, adding interior carbon fiber-style trim. The range-topping XSE Premium is fully loaded with an 8-speaker JBL premium audio system, panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats with memory function, power tailgate, digital rearview mirror, 360-degree camera system, and Advanced Park—a feature that enables both parallel and perpendicular automated parking. An optional 185-watt solar roof can also be added, allowing battery charging while parked or driving, with live solar output data shown in the infotainment display.
Technology-wise, the 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid supports a wide range of connectivity features, including Drive Connect with a voice assistant (“Hey Toyota”), Cloud Navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to five devices, Apple Music and Amazon Music via integrated streaming, and dual Bluetooth connections. Safety is enhanced with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and Proactive Driving Assist, which can apply brakes or adjust steering in certain conditions.
Pricing for the 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid starts at $33,775 for the SE trim (approx. 1.25 million baht), with availability at Toyota dealerships expected in the summer of 2025 (between June 21 and September 21).
