Chery has unveiled two new dual-cab pickup models – the Rely KP2X and Rely KP3X – at the Chengdu Motor Show in China, featuring diesel-hybrid and fully electric powertrains.
Rely is one of Chery’s many brands and was relaunched in China as a dedicated pickup brand in April 2025, after previously focusing on SUVs and Vans.
The KP2X is the smaller of the two and, based on its exterior design, is expected to be a battery electric vehicle (BEV). Key design cues include the absence of a front grille, no exhaust outlets, flush door handles – a signature EV feature – and a distinctive rear window design. It’s believed to use a monocoque construction similar to passenger cars. The KP3X, on the other hand, is a diesel-hybrid model styled as a full off-road pickup, featuring round headlights, all-terrain tyres with bead-lock wheels, front and rear bash plates, orange tow hooks, traditional door handles, and a separate rear tub with an integrated step similar to the Ford Ranger. Its dimensions are close to the Rely R8, measuring 5370mm in length – the same as the Ranger XLT.
While Chery has yet to release full specifications for the KP3X, it has confirmed the diesel-hybrid powertrain. It remains unclear if it will share the same combustion engines as the Rely R8, which in China is available with a 2.3-litre turbo-diesel producing 120kW (163 PS) and 420Nm, or a 2.4-litre petrol engine producing 118kW (160 PS) and 230Nm, both paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and rear leaf-spring suspension.
In addition to the KP2X and KP3X, Rely has also confirmed development of the KP4X, a larger pickup comparable in size to the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500, though it has yet to be officially unveiled.
