All-new Subaru Outback debuts at the New York Motor Show, alongside the Wilderness Edition designed for adventure seekers.
The new Outback has undergone a significant redesign, appearing larger and more angular compared to its predecessor. The front features split headlights, a large U-shaped grille with the Subaru emblem at the center, and exterior styling elements that emphasize its ruggedness. The roof rails are designed to carry a dynamic load of up to 220 pounds (around 100 kg), enough for bikes and rooftop tents, while the static load capacity reaches up to 800 pounds (around 360 kg). Additionally, the roof rails can support 220 pounds of lateral load, allowing for things like hanging a hammock or setting up a clothesline. The rear of the vehicle has a more upright hatch, enhancing both its aesthetics and cargo capacity. The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system is standard across all trims.
As for engine options, the new Outback offers two powertrains: a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-four engine producing 180 horsepower and 182 Nm of torque, and a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine delivering 260 horsepower and 376 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a CVT automatic transmission.
Inside, all models, including the Wilderness edition, feature a 12.1-inch horizontal touchscreen, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new processor offers quicker responsiveness. The digital instrument cluster for the driver is a 12.3-inch display that can switch between different layouts, including a map view and a Calm Mode, which reduces distractions to keep the driver focused on the road.

Wilderness Edition
The Wilderness Edition is a special trim designed with enhanced performance to better meet the needs of those who require a more rugged vehicle. It is available exclusively with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine.
What sets it apart from the standard model are several key features. The exterior styling includes a front grille with the SUBARU lettering, 17-inch matte black alloy wheels wrapped in All-Terrain tires, and additional rugged body cladding. The suspension has been specially tuned for the Wilderness trim, with ground clearance increased from 220 mm to 241 mm. Additionally, the center differential can now lock more quickly, and the off-road angles have been optimized compared to the standard model.
Key off-road angle improvements include:
These enhancements make the Wilderness Edition an even more capable choice for off-road adventures.
