Nissan officially unveiled its latest plug-in hybrid pickup truck, the “Frontier Pro,” at Auto Shanghai 2025, alongside the debut of the Dongfeng Nissan N7. The Frontier Pro is one of nine New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) that Nissan plans to launch in China by 2027.
On the exterior, the front grille features an illuminated Nissan logo, with five LED light elements aligned parallel to the hood, emphasizing the vehicle’s width. The design was inspired by the iconic three-slot air vents found on the hood of the classic D21 pickup.
All variants of the Frontier Pro come standard with 18-inch alloy wheels paired with 265/65R18 tires. Under the hood, it’s powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine working in tandem with an electric motor, producing a combined output of over 402 horsepower and up to 800 Nm of torque.
For the Chinese market, the Frontier Pro is expected to deliver up to 135 km of electric-only driving range per charge. Every model features a 5-link rear suspension and an intelligent all-wheel drive system that automatically manages torque distribution between the front and rear wheels. Off-road performance is enhanced by an electromechanical rear differential lock, along with four drive modes: ‘Hybrid’, ‘Pure Electric’, ‘Performance’, and ‘Snow’.
Inside, the Frontier Pro’s cabin includes a panoramic roof, a 10-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch infotainment display. The front seats offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions for added comfort. Additional convenience features include roof rails and a motorized roller lid for the cargo bed. The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing it to supply up to 6kW of power to external devices.
